Leonia Borough services

The Leonia Department of Public Works picks up garbage, trash, recyclables, yard waste and white goods.   All collectibles should be at the curb by 7 a.m. and no earlier than 5 p.m. on the preceding day.   See the Borough Calendar (thanks to the BOE) to confirm pick up dates.

Bulk Trash
  • Household furnishings such as chairs, sofas, rugs and other miscellaneous items 
  • Picked up curb side on alternate Mondays and Thursdays, bi-weekly
Mixed Paper
  • Newspapers in brown bag - not commingled with other paper 
  • Cardboard boxes broken down and stacked, then tied with cord
  • The residue of mixed paper in a plastic container
Co-Mingled Containers
  • Glass bottles and jars, cans, all plastic containers numbered 1 through 7 
  • All containers must be rinsed
  • Picked up on alternating Wednesdays. Place at curb in hard receptacles, not in Plastic Bags
White Goods
  • Washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, air conditioners and miscellaneous metal items
  • The DPW will schedule a pick up of these items. Call 201-592-5790; leave your name, phone number, and address where the items are to be picked up. 
Yard Waste
  • Branches, brush, clippings
  • Pick ups are on alternating Mondays unless there is a Holiday.  Refer to the pick-up schedule in the Community Calendar or on the Web-site. This service is available March through November of the calendar year.  Do not place in Plastic Bags. 
 Loose Leaves
  • Can be raked into piles at the curb from October through December.  Do not place in Plastic Bags. 
Electronics
  • All electronics (televisions, computers, monitors, printers, fax machines) must be recycled. They can be brought to the DPW garage on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 8AM-3PM.

Bergen County Recycling

Bergen County Utilities Authority schedules recycling events several times a year for Bergen County residents only.

Computer and Electronics Recycling
  • The BCUA collects all types of computer and electronic equipment such as monitors, Computer Processing Units (CPU's), laptop computers, printers, keyboards, fax machines, hard drives, modems, speakers, power sources and wiring for recycling and reuse.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection
  • The BCUA will accept items such as paints, automotive products, pesticides, aerosols, flammable materials, etc. that are used around your home on a daily basis.

Bergen County Freecycle

"Bergen County Freecycle (TM) is open to all who want to see their beloved and formerly useful possessions in a good home. Declutter your home without feeling guilty and wasteful...You can post any object that you'd like to get rid of (no, we don't take ex-spouses....) whether it's a chair, a guitar, textbooks, or a plant. Or maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself! "
